Here is a snippet!

It’s not very often that we are graced with a solo record where the guitar is the primary focus. For some, it could be challenging to hook new fans without radio ready, catchy choruses on every song. Pat Reilly, however, doesn’t have that problem.

The first five songs on the album do not have any vocals, but honestly, they don’t need them. The guitar riffs are so melodic throughout that they completely engulf you, and this is first experienced in the opener, “Between Two Worlds”. If Killswitch Engage and Amon Amarth came together, this is what it would sound like. Read More...
Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/63986442020-07-31T15:44:38-04:002020-07-31T15:44:38-04:00The Path
For any artists out there that are feeling down, feeling like you not moving forward, feeling like you should give up; I have been there. I fight every day not to stray from my path. The struggle will never go away, but you can better position yourself to deal with it. Here are some things that help keep me sane and focused.

-Do not compare your success or ability to the success or abilities of others. We ALL have unique traits in our abilities. You are unique, your story is different, my story is different. Measuring yourself up to other people is a sure way to feel inadequate. Don't try to be better than others, try to be better than YOU were yesterday.

-Focus on what you can control, not what you cannot. We are living through a pandemic. We can't tour, we can't even play at a local venue and it blows. Use this time to practice as much as you have ever practiced. Experiment with new recording techniques. If you are not recording yourself, you best start doing it. Learn how to be self-sufficient.

-Try to stay positive even when everything sucks. The universe responds to our energy. I promise you if you can manage to REALLY feel positive, find the good in almost any situation, you WILL attract positive things into your life.

-Cut ties with negative band members or negative people in general. I cannot stress this enough. People with bad energy WILL bring you down. It is hard enough being in a band with people, clashing on ideas, and whatnot. If on top of that you have someone who consistently has a bad attitude, either you get out or get that person out. Don't waste any more time, do it now!

Lastly, do not let anyone tell you that your passion is not worth pursuing. If you truly believe in your heart that music or art is your reason for being than you BETTER tell those naysayers to screw off. This is very personal, but I have gone through that first hand. Since my early days as a musician, I had always been steered away from music as a serious profession. I won't make any money they say, it's not a career. A smirk here a giggle there 🤬. At one point I actually did give up on music and guitar playing altogether. I went to college, got a Bachelors and an Associates's degree. All the while feeling completely dead inside. That is what if feels like to deny yourself your purpose. Let me tell you.. I don't give a shit if I make lots of money as a musician. I am going to find a way to keep pushing forward in this life. I AM where I want to be right now and I WILL be where I want to be tomorrow.

Rant over, this is what helps me cope and progress every day. I hope it helps someone else 🖤

Hug your cat, pet your dog, kiss your significant other, remember something you love to do and do it until you ask yourself why you ever stopped doing it. Try to empathize with a stranger you may not see eye to eye with.

We are all of one kind before we are anything else. "We are human". Black, White, Asian, catholic, Jewish, police officer, lawyer, musician, waiter, American, Mexican, Russian, etc. all that is secondary.

There is so much wrong with our human way of life, and so much of it boils down to the way we segregate ourselves based on our jobs, sexual orientation, culture, tax bracket, and skin color. You are not so different than the person bagging your groceries, you are not so different than the person signing your checks, you are no different than someone doing what they think is right in order to make the world remember that everyone has a right to live freely and without fear, unjust harm or incarceration. When you cut through all the underlying nonsense and excess emotion of the human condition; we all want the same things!

The system has been broken for a long time. Corrupt media and political establishments want us segregated. Every day we are being manipulated one way or another. This is obviously a time of extremes. REALLY think before you act, especially now.
Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/63241642020-05-15T00:00:00-04:002020-05-20T19:19:27-04:00Fellahin Fall Debut Album Tar a-Kan Out Now!
You know I'm not just a solo artist, right?

It just hit me. Music should not be categorized as entertainment. It does so much more for the spirit of a person. Music heals, it inspires, it unites, it provides us things that we can't even put into words. When we get lost in music, we are not entertained, we are overtaken, put under a spell. Sure there are some people that just don't get it, bit I think anyone with a soul can't help but understand.

Lick Formula is a series I created with the intention of sharing what I hope you find to be interesting yet not terribly challenging lead guitar licks. Each episode will have a new guitar lick for your listening and viewing pleasure and will be accompanied by downloadable guitar tabs and click tracks for you to practice with. When creating lead guitar licks, I have learned to use what I call the Marty Friedman approach. What is the Marty Friedman approach? It is basically a way of creating your licks and runs using a combination of patterns within each bar as opposed to playing the same pattern for an extended period of time. For example, instead of playing a 4's pattern through 4 bars (which many players do, and yes it can sounds cool), the Marty approach would be something like mixing several patterns within the sequence. Doing this gives your leads much more flavor while also being unpredictable. I hope you enjoy Lick Formula, don't forget to like, subscribe and follow at the links below!

For several years I have been working to create a name for myself, not just as a creator but also as someone that can be called upon as a trusted session guitarist and musician. Someone with something special to offer that takes pride in others creations as well. Because music is extremely personal to its creator, it is the ultimate honor when another musician puts their trust in you, asking you to perform on their songs.

I want to thank a few awesome bands/musicians that have put their faith in me over the past 5 months, entrusting me with over 28 guitar solos. Thank you guys for trusting me to enhance your creations. I hope you love the solos I have created and I thank you for the opportunity to be a part of what you do.

A statement from Blank TV

YouTube is continuing its apparent war on BlankTV. After thirteen years, they de-monetized the channel back in May, 2019. So BlankTV is back to being a labor of love. They have now informed us that we will no longer be considered a "YouTube Partner Channel", that we no longer have a YouTube representative and they have issued us 3,000 copyright violations, even though they know we have licenses for all the content on the channel.

Twenty years, 22,000 videos, 730,000 subscribers and 1.2 BILLION videos shown. We will not let BlankTV die at the hands of these major label-worshipping ingrates.

PAT REILLY also known as “Pat The Panther” is the one man band in himself who is from Queens, New York. His style is Melodic Instrumental Metal which is hauntingly beautiful to listen to. Pat started learning guitar at the age of 16 & has never looked back. You can tell he has learned with passion as the care he gives in delivering his music. Although currently unsigned, he is doing rather well on his own. His first single “She Lights Up The Dark” was released in August 2016 and now we have his new release of the album “Path To Transcendence” on January 3rd 2020. The new album brings us 9 immersing songs of pure instrumental pleasure Which is a slow & soothing paced album. The fact that it’s an instrumentally influenced album gives height to the music being played. The album shows as Pat says his influences come from the likes of PINK FLOYD & DIMEBAG DARREL to name a couple. I will go on to describe a couple of the songs from the new solo album.

The Sleepless and Dracarys were written together as a story.
When I was writing The Sleepless, I imagined silent winter beyond the wall; Still pines, wolves and creeping White Walkers. Snow fell lightly on the blood-stained forest soil.

Dracarys is quite the opposite of the Sleepless, yet before Path to Transcendence was released, the two songs were joined as One. Dracarys is the beauty of mayhem and chaos. Dracarys is revenge and revolt. The Dragon is the ultimate weapon and inspiration, cleansing without fear of judgment. This world needs a dragon.

Dracarys is an original instrumental metal composition inspired by the Game of Thrones series. Dracarys is from Pat Reilly's debut full-length album "Path to Transcendence"
This two-part visualizer video contains "The Sleepless" (intro to Dracarys) and the original composition "Dracarys"
Part 1 - The Sleepless 00:00-1:34
Part 2 - Dracarys 1:34-end

1/3/2020, be on the lookout because I promise, there is something on this album for everyone!

I want to thank everyone who has supported and contributed to this process along the way! Thank you to all the guest musicians, Michael Marrone, Michael Centrone, Tadpole Jones, Anthony Quiles. I especially want to thank Nature who is no longer with us, but I will always remember how this all began and it was all with him RIP.

Pat Reilly – Between Two Worlds Song Review

Today we are featuring another remarkable guitarist; Pat Reilly, from USA. We have reviewed his electrifying song; Between Two Worlds, along with its character, style, story, potential and more.

Pat Reilly is another promising instrumental metal artist, a phenomenal guitar player I have discovered about a month ago with this song; Between Two Worlds, off from his single with the same title, which was released in 2019. Pat Reilly mainly is a composer, producer (most probably) and a guitarist. Between Two Worlds is a powerful piece of work, a badass progressive/instrumental composition where he is showing great potential with his guitar playing skills, composing and understanding of music.

When I look at Pat Reilly’s general music style, I can say that he has a delicious mix of many different guitarists such as; Andy James, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, Marco Sfogli and so on. He is making a difference with his melodic side mostly, along with his traditional sentences in this composition. Guitar music always had its place in music industry, yet I believe it started to gain popularity especially with some progressive rock acts like Dream Theater, along with other phenomenal guitar players such as Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Michael Angelo Batio, Al Di Meola, and Paul Gilbert. However, John Petrucci surely is one of the revolutionary names who have had a huge influence on many guitarists with his technique, progressive sentences, innovative thinking, guitar playing skills and music style from all around the world. Pat Reilly is one of those who has taken all these different influences, blended, digested, and now offering the world his own versions of it. Between Two Worlds is a powerful metal track with incredibly high energy and badass atmosphere. When you listen to Pat’s solo parts carefully, you can hear some Steve Vai, Andy James and Joe Satriani influences. Just like I have mentioned above, he has a little bit of something yet nothing too much, which is admirable. I am a guitarist myself and I can tell you that he is an advanced guitar player as well as a great composer. Hands down. This song for instance is one of those that I’d call; “intelligent songwriting”. Not everybody can write music and play these partitions like he does.

Technically, Between Two Worlds has top-class standards in every way. Everything sounds clean, clear, progressive, very well engineered, polished, mixed and most importantly, in great harmony. Yes, there might be (not %100 sure) some additional software drumming, effects and so on. But I don’t mind it as long as the music gives me the feeling.

When I take all these into account, I’d like to say that I am well impressed by Pat Reilly. He immediately earned our respect and admiration with his musicality, skills, attitude and hard work. He has the right spirit, talent and the potential to become a touring guitarist, in my humble opinion. All he has to do is to continue working hard and maintaining his standards. That’s all!

Please go ahead and check out the links below if you’d like to find out more about the band, follow them on social media and subscribe to their channels to show your support and also not to miss any upcoming releases.

Oh boy, the last day and still sooo many albums I could mention! With that being said, this isn't really a hard one. Actually, it is hard, in the sense that I want to list all of their albums ha.
In recent years, Evergrey has affected me so deeply, not only on a personal level but a musical one as well. With every listen of their work, I am deeply moved, inspired and motivated to live my music to its fullest potential. A few weeks ago on my wife's birthday, we had the luxury and drinking with them on their tour RV for a few hours, they even sang happy birthday to her in Swedish! It was as epic as they are ?

This album is absolute perfection!!

My favorite thing about Vinnie's playing is not that he can shred the hell out of a guitar, but that he doesn't sacrifice the integrity of a song for the sake of shredding senselessly. His skills are absolutely top-notch, but his songwriting is even better! You will hear so many musical styles as Vinnie and his awesome group of musicians take you on a musical journey.
The Maze has definitely left an imprint on me as a guitarist. One of my favorite instrumental albums of all time for sure.

Album 1, Pink Floyd's The Wall
Album 2, Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction

Growing up in a family that loves rock and roll, I was introduced to Pink Floyd before I could even understand what I was hearing. I remember hearing The Wall when I was very young and loving it so much. Such a powerful album in so many ways; it surely impacted me greatly.
Megadeth was a band that I didn't really discover until way after I was obsessed with Metallica. I had heard Megadeth before, but it never really caught me ear until I started playing guitar. Before that, I honestly thought Kirk Hammett was the greatest guitar player on earth lol. Once I heard the solo for Symphony of Destruction, I was wondering where the hell Megadeth had been all my life! Since that day, Marty Friedman has been one of my top 3 influences as a guitar player.

Marty Friedman's Dragons Kiss and Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn.
Both of these albums demonstrate a unique blend of musical virtuosity, dynamics, emotion, and intensity. Guitar players around the world will forever look to Marty and Jason to better themselves.

Guitarist Pat Reilly

Music is not my hobby. Music is my path, my passion, my oxygen, my reason for wanting to get up every single day!
The path of an artist is a difficult one. It is like traveling through an unpredictable storm of anxiety, financial uncertainty, deception and judgment, yet you keep on traveling.
Why would anyone put themselves through such a life if not for some deep unexplained need to create?
Next time you meet a musician or artist of any kind, try not to think, oh that's cute, but what do you really do for a living?

-PR-
Guitarist and Composer
Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/58613902019-07-25T19:20:00-04:002019-08-21T03:02:24-04:00The Road Ahead, The Road Behind
Being a bit of a loner, I don't often take the opportunity to vent or share my thoughts. Lately I have been going through moments of feeling completely lost, sometimes even helpless as I continue to traverse this life as a creator.

2018 was an amazing year for me. I spent nearly 3 months on the road, playing Carnegie Hall and meeting countless amazing people throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. Many of the relationships that were born on the road will surely last a lifetime. I look back on 2018, and I have nothing but smiles and gratitude.

2019 is still being written, but has been filled with so many highs and lows, its been absolutely crazy. I played at Winter Namm with Tengger Cavalry, successfully funded my first full length album through kickstarter receiving over $5k from 115 backers and recorded 3 awesome music videos, one which is for a new project that I am excited to reveal soon!

These tremendous highs have been shadowed by tremendous lows. Nature Ganganbaigal, our band leader, a person that I shared many life milestones with, died this past June. My aunt passed away just 1 week before that. Tengger Cavalry was set to tour for at least 2 months at the end of this year. Obviously this isn't happening anymore which only extends the feeling of loss and sadness.

I still have my mission and my purpose; create and perform. I continue to work on my album Path to Transcendence and hope to be on the road again soon. Touring makes me feel like i'm living my purpose. Sitting in a studio recording music is great, but nothing makes it worth it more than bringing it to a live audience. This is where I thrive, this is where I belong.
Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/56725482019-03-07T17:44:15-05:002019-09-20T00:07:41-04:00SPOTIFY AND AMAZON ‘SUE SONGWRITERS’ WITH APPEAL AGAINST 44% ROYALTY RISE IN THE UNITED STATES
A recent Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) ruling brought great news for songwriters in the US – with royalty rates for streaming and other mechanical uses set to rise 44% in the market.

Spotify and Amazon have now officially come out in opposition to the ruling, in what the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) has called a “shameful” move which equates to “suing songwriters”.

On January 27, 2018 MBW reported on the CRB’s landmark decision, which stated that royalty rates paid to songwriters in the US from on-demand subscription streaming would rise by 44% over the next five years. That decision was ratified last month (February 5), when the CRB published the final rates and terms for songwriters.

Streaming companies were given 30 days to lodge official opposition to the ruling if they wished. The likes of Apple Music declined to do so – but it’s a different case for Spotify and Amazon, which have now both filed a notice of appeal. Pandora and Google have also asked the CRB to review its decision.

In a statement today (March 7), the NMPA said that a “huge victory for songwriters is now in jeopardy” due to the streaming services’ filings.

NMPA President & CEO David Israelite commented: “When the Music Modernization Act became law, there was hope it signaled a new day of improved relations between digital music services and songwriters.

“That hope was snuffed out today when Spotify and Amazon decided to sue songwriters in a shameful attempt to cut their payments by nearly one-third.

“The Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) spent two years reading thousands of pages of briefs and hearing from dozens of witnesses while both sides spent tens of millions of dollars on attorneys arguing over the worth of songs to the giant technology companies who run streaming services.

“The CRB’s final determination gave songwriters only their second meaningful rate increase in 110 years. Instead of accepting the CRB’s decision which still values songs less than their fair market value, Spotify and Amazon have declared war on the songwriting community by appealing that decision.”

“SPOTIFY AND AMAZON [HAVE] DECIDED TO SUE SONGWRITERS IN A SHAMEFUL ATTEMPT TO CUT THEIR PAYMENTS BY NEARLY ONE-THIRD.”

DAVID ISRAELITE, NMPA (PICTURED)

In a clearly furious statement, Israelite continued: “No amount of insincere and hollow public relations gestures such as throwing parties or buying billboards of congratulations or naming songwriters ‘geniuses’ can hide the fact that these big tech bullies do not respect or value the songwriters who make their businesses possible.

“We thank Apple Music for accepting the CRB decision and continuing its practice of being a friend to songwriters. While Spotify and Amazon surely hope this will play out in a quiet appellate courtroom, every songwriter and every fan of music should stand up and take notice. We will fight with every available resource to protect the CRB’s decision.”

“NO AMOUNT OF INSINCERE AND HOLLOW PUBLIC RELATIONS GESTURES SUCH AS THROWING PARTIES OR BUYING BILLBOARDS OF CONGRATULATIONS OR NAMING SONGWRITERS ‘GENIUSES’ CAN HIDE THE FACT THAT THESE BIG TECH BULLIES DO NOT RESPECT OR VALUE THE SONGWRITERS WHO MAKE THEIR BUSINESSES POSSIBLE.”

DAVID ISRAELITE, NMPA

NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) Executive Director Bart Herbison stated, “It is unfortunate that Amazon and Spotify decided to file an appeal on the CRB’s decision to pay American songwriters higher digital mechanical royalties. Many songwriters have found it difficult to stay in the profession in the era of streaming music. You cannot feed a family when you earn hundreds of dollars for millions of streams.

“Spotify specifically continues to try and depress royalties to songwriters around the globe as illustrated by their recent moves in India. Trying to work together as partners toward a robust future in the digital music era is difficult when any streaming company fails to recognize the value of a songwriter’s contribution to their business.”

Based on today’s actions, NMPA will also file a notice of appeal.

“IF LEFT TO STAND, THE CRB’S DECISION HARMS BOTH MUSIC LICENSEES AND COPYRIGHT OWNERS. ACCORDINGLY, WE ARE ASKING THE U.S. COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE D.C. CIRCUIT TO REVIEW THE DECISION.”

SPOTIFY, GOOGLE AND PANDORA JOINT STATEMENT

In a joint statement, Google, Pandora and Spotify – who are all asking the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to review the CRB’s recent decision – said:

“The Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), in a split decision, recently issued the U.S. mechanical statutory rates in a manner that raises serious procedural and substantive concerns.

“If left to stand, the CRB’s decision harms both music licensees and copyright owners. Accordingly, we are asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to review the decision.”

For months I kept seeing advertisements about music monetization coming. Yesterday I saw them pushing this on a Facebook ad. When I took a deeper look it seems that you will be required to pay for a monthly subscription to Soundcloud in order to be eligible to have your songs monetized. In a world where artists are already paid scraps for their streams, this is a big step in the wrong direction. Just my humble opinion of course.
Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/56473372019-02-17T16:49:11-05:002019-02-17T16:53:38-05:00Perception Is More Important Than You Think
There was a point in my musical career where I didn't understand the importance of how listeners perceived me or my music. But over the years I have learned how powerful perception can be in growing your success as an artist.

What is perception? a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression. What do your fans or potential fans think of when they think of or see you? Do they think, success, failure, average Joe, rock god, quality? Are you portraying an image of success? If you are serous about a career in music but aren't creating a professional perception of yourself, you need to start today!

All to often I have been at shows where the singer of a band will talk about how he forgot a line or will apologize to the audience about some other aspect of the performance. I have even heard singers talk about how nobody cares about their music in a semi joking manner. That singer has just created a negative perception of his or herself and their band. I think this is one of the worst things an artist can do, especially in a live performance situation; If you dont take yourself seriously than I promise you nobody else will either. There are some really simple things you can start implementing today to start creating a positive perception of you and your band. Here are a few:

Post Quality Content On Social Media. What does this mean? It means don't post poor quality images or videos where things are blurry or poorly composed. Good composition gives an impression of professionalism and quality. Yes you should post often but always go for quality over quantity. Here are some great photography tips that will help you be more conscious about how you take/edit pictures. 10-top-photography-composition-rules

Show You Are Musically Active. Keeping in mind what I said in the previous tip, always be ready to document your musical endeavors. Fans are interested in what you are doing so don't hold back.

Start a Conversion Make regular posts to build up your fan engagement. Post about things that you can have a conversation about. Maybe you know about audio engineering, maybe you have know about tone woods, maybe you wanna get deep and philosophical; Whatever it is, start a conversation with your fans and create a rapport with as many prospects as you can. You are nothing without your fans and you should care about engaging with them.

Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/56304762019-02-11T13:18:12-05:002019-02-11T13:18:12-05:00Overcoming The Challenges of Writing Music as a New Solo Artist
As a solo artist, you don't have to worry about compromise when it comes to writing, you have complete and final say over everything. This is one of the great perks of writing music on your own, but its not as easy going as you may think and here is why.

When you write music with a band, 1- you have the benefit of instant feedback. You play a riff or a melody and your band members will Love it, Hate it or having feelings somewhere in between, and whether you know it or not, 2- your ideas will feed off of the group. Your drummer plays a certain beat or the guitarist plays a certain riff, all of a sudden something hits you and you whip out the best riff of your life, haha or at least that's what you're thinking in that moment. The challenges of writing with others comes when you have an idea that you absolutely Love but everyone else shoots it down. This forces you to compromise your idea or completely ditch it all together... boy does that suck and yes I have been there many a time; It is this very situation that causes many artists to alienate from their band and go solo.

So now you're a solo artist, great right? Now you have total control over your musical direction, nobody to answer to and nobody to kill your vision. Yea it is great to have complete control over your song writing and compositions, but as a solo artist you lose the benefit of instant feedback and feeding off of the group. You sit down by yourself for a writing session and you realize its all on you. You come up with ideas and and your not quite sure how good they are. You try to feed the next idea off of the previous one and it seems to go nowhere!

Here are a some things that will help you take on those challenges.

Trust in your vision! You have lost the instant feedback of your band, but If you had enough confidence in your ideas to become a solo artist then you should trust in your vision. That doesn't mean that feedback isn't valuable, it can be extremely valuable, but you can't rely on other peoples opinions to shape your creations into something you believe in.

Getting reliable feedback from the outside can be tricky, many people will just tell you what they think you want to hear. If you want to receive more reliable feedback, I suggest you try this. When sending your song to people in search of feedback, ask specific questions, dont just ask "hey man, what do you think of this song". Ask, what do you think of this guitar tone or whats your opinion on the drum beat. Talk to musicians, ask drummers about their take on your beats, ask guitar players about their take on your composition or melodies. Lastly, be indifferent when asking for feedback, if you are overly excited about your music then most people will have a hard time giving feedback that might crush your ego; encourage people to be honest.

Get a home studio setup. You need to develop a way of inspiring your ideas now that you are on you own. You dont have to go crazy with the spending, all you need is a basic interface, a digital audio workstation and a few virtual instruments that fit your needs. I highly recommend Native Instruments Komplete, it has tons of amazing instruments in one package.

Learn MIDI! The quality of virtual instruments is absolutely amazing these days. You can compose an entire song without ever plugging in or putting a mic on any real instruments. This allows us to write entire songs without sacrificing time and energy on technical hurdles that would once got in the way. Once you start experimenting with different virtual instruments, I promise that you will hear sounds that bring ideas to the surface just like when you heard your old drummer or guitarist noodling at rehearsal.

Thats all I got for now, if this was helpful to at least one person than it was worth writing.

Short but sweet, the Vajra Spring Fire Tour started in Williamsport Pennsylvania and ended with a bang at Bratfest in Madison Wisconsin. Oh how I have missed being on the road.. We were very fortunate to have amazing weather through our entire journey, nothing but heat and sunshine! Although I dont blend well with the heat, Annamaria certainly took advantage of the sun every change she got!

This being my first tour with Vajra, I was really excited to meet the bands fans and friends on the road. I had forgotten how amazingly friendly and hospitable people can be outside of New York! Nah i'm kidding, I love New Yorker's ;)

I want to specifically give a special shout out to everyone that helped make our time on the road that much more special and memorable. Specific names have been held back to protect the innocent.

This was over a decade ago and I have no idea what software was available at that time, all I had was my Pod 2.0, mixcraft recording DAW and a crappy 4 track recorder. Well since those days of the stone age( I know i'm being dramatic) I have worked with and accumulated a respectable amount of software plugins and virtual instruments. This brings me to my entire point for writing this blog post! My recommended music software for beginner songwriters is as follows.

Keep in mind, you will need yourself an audio interface before you can get the most out of laying down your first kick ass music tracks. I am assuming most readers of this article already have themselves an interface. If not, here is a great yet inexpensive one- Saffire Scarlett Solo

1-Reaper

Reaper is an extremely powerful and easy to use Digital Audio Workstation. As far as I know, Reaper can do everything that Pro Tools can do and with far less of a hassle. Bonus points to reaper for also allowing you to dress up the software to look like any DAW you want by downloading from the extensive community theme library. What else? oh yea, Reaper is cheap! Free to try for 60 days, then 60 bucks for non commercial license and 225 for a commercial license.
Here is a nice comparison between Reaper and Pro Tools 11

2-Native Instruments Komplete 9 and above

I forget how long ago it was, but the first virtual instrument and production software I ever purchased was Komplete 9. It was to this day the most worthwhile music software investment I ever made. Best part is I purchased it off of ebay for a huge discount and you can likely do the same. So what is Komplete? Here is an excerpt from Native Instruments website:

KOMPLETE is the world’s leading collection for music production, performance, and sound design. All the tools you need – any production task, any type of music, anything you can imagine. Delve into an enormous collection of 45 inspiring and innovative virtual instruments and effects. Radical synthesizers, classic drums, larger-than-life sampled instruments, and avant-garde sound design plus the world’s leading sampling and synthesis platforms REAKTOR and KONTAKT. All at a fraction of the combined cost of the individual components.
From guitar amp modeling and drums to synths and orchestral strings, Komplete literally has everything you need to be inspired and create (my personal favorite synth is Absynth). It also comes with the industry standard Kontakt player, which opens a world of possibilities to future 3rd party software purchases such as Geosonics (one of my personal favorites). Once you have your DAW and interface, I would definitely make Komplete your first purchase.

3-EZ DRUMMER 2

Although Komplete does come bundled with some decent percussion, I was looking for something with a more polished sound to make it that much easier for me to get inspired. Enter EZ Drummer 2, another game changing software for songwriters. EZ Drummer 2 has by far the most amazing sounding drums right out of the box. Not only are the drum sounds amazing, but there are genre specific addons that you can purchase to get closer to that exact sound you are hearing in your head. Hmm what else? Oh yea, EZ Drummer 2 also comes loaded with hundreds of pre recorded midi grooves that you can insert right into your session. The grooves are easily modifiable, allowing you to tailor your own custom drum beats. EZ Drummer 2 is a must have for beginner songwriters!

It was probably our best set ever.
As one musical chapter comes to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to announce a new chapter. I have been jamming with a new band for a couple of months and would like to now officially announce that I joined Vajra. Vajra is a completely new musical dimension for me. I have always wondered what an artists demo version of a song might have sounded like before it was all polished and cleaned up. With that being said, I figured why not set up a private link where fans can get a peak at what Dead Eyes sounded like before it had live bass, drums and the master mixing skills of Dino Alden.

Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/50894522018-02-20T14:36:01-05:002018-02-20T14:36:01-05:00The Media Divides Us Through our Innate Morbid Curiosity
Every day, mainstream news outlets and social media feeds bombard us with imagery that tickles our conflict bone. Stories of cruelty, murder, hate and lost innocence greatly outweigh stories of inspiration and goodwill. As human beings, most of us cannot help but engage in these articles that give us a look into the dark sides of humanity where humans inflict pain and suffering on their fellow man, animals or themselves.

There is a Law and Order SVU episode, I believe it is titled "Specticle". In this episode, a girls assault was going to be broadcast over the internet once the viewer count reached a certain threshold. Through the media, police urged people to stay off of the website as this girl's life may depend on it. As you can probably guess, even with a persons life on the line, all of the attention given to this situation caused the website to become flooded with viewers and the minimum view threshold had by far been met. Life imitates art and art imitates life, although this situation is from a fictional TV series, I am confident that the same exact result would occur in reality.

Most people do not have the willpower to ignore/suppress their morbid curiosity. This is why we still have traffic jams caused by people who want to break their necks to see a car with a flat tire on the side of the road. This is why you are more likely to see 100 people recording an assault with their phones yet not one of them will actually help the person being assaulted. What makes it worse is that there are always troubled individuals desperately searching for a way to get attention, a way to get into a spotlight that is all dependent on the human races seemingly innate need for violence and conflict, which our government and media exploits. Today, all over the news, all over social media, all you see is stories of school shootings, stories of racism, sexism, discrimination and hatred on all levels, with nearly every solution pointing to some kind of government regulation that is supposed to fix these problems; don't you see that we are being played for fools? Our problems can not be solved by giving control to someone else ( especially not a government filled with out of touch, greedy and corruptible people), our problems get solved when we accept responsibility for our role in the bigger picture and take control within yourself to make a change!

Believe it or not, good things happen in the world too. If you stay attached to mainstream news and social media then you will always be fed fear, hate and judgment on a conscious and unconscious level. If we always focus on the negative then we will almost always have negativity surrounding us. The change starts with us as individuals, as friends, as family members and as members of our societies. Today and everyday, be better to yourself, be better to everyone in your life and be grateful for what you have; there is always someone that is grateful having far less than you do.

In the past couple of years, I have really grown to love the tone and feel of high end Ibanez Guitars. They feel great in my hands and they just have a tone that fits who I have become as a player over the past 20 years. It really saddens me that out of 4 BRAND NEW Ibanez guitars( 3 Prestige, 1 Iron Label) I have obtained over the past couple of years through trades and purchases, 3 of them had terribly fret leveling issues!
Guitarist Pat Reillytag:patreilly.net,2005:Post/50715832018-02-09T16:38:31-05:002018-02-09T16:44:10-05:00Dead Eyes Tracks Officially Submitted for Mixing!
I am super excited to say that all of the tracks for Dead Eyes have been submitted to Dino Alden for mixing! The Heart on the other hand knows your true purpose in life, the Heart has all of the answers you seek and if you ask it a question, you will have your answer almost instantly (but will you listen)? With the exception of having kids (unless you consider fur babies children), I have done all of the things that my Mind/Ego urged me to do. I Graduated from two colleges, worked a steady job for over a decade which then turned into a career, all the while feeling like I was slowly dying inside, losing myself to this world of artificial meanings and manufactured happiness. I have followed the breadcrumbs of my mind almost blindly until only recently.

This past September, I was introduced to a series called Missing Links. Hosted by Gregg Braden, Missing Links Explores the deep truths of our origin, history, destiny and fate. This show and the knowledge contained within it, cause me to look deep within myself and analyze the current trajectory of my life. Missing Links made me realize that I was not living my truth, I was not living with purpose, I was not living the life my Heart had always known I was supposed to be living. All of these realizations hit me hard and fast, pushing me make changes in my life that I have never looked back from.

In October of 2017, having new beliefs and strong intentions of what my life would become, I threw away all of my fears, all of my old understandings, all of my self doubt and I resigned from the soul sucking job that I had been with for over a decade. Since my resignation, I have experienced first hand that we truly do have the power to manifest our own destinies. I will not say it is easy, as it takes the ability to stay resilient against all forms of internal and external negativity, self doubt and a lifetime of conditioning to the contrary of what your new beliefs are, but IT IS POSSIBLE AND IT IS WORTH IT!
